Toddler Diseases and Their Causes

Last updated on May 29, 2026

In the toddler stage (children aged 1 to 3 years), children's bodies are developing and their immune system is still developing. During this period, children touch new things, put them in their mouths and come into contact with other children, due to which they can easily become victims of various diseases.

Common diseases and their causes (Causation)

  • Cold and Cough : This is mainly caused by viral infections. This problem often occurs due to weak immunity, changing weather, or coming into contact with an infected person.

  • Fever : Fever is not a disease in itself, but it is the body's natural reaction to fight viruses or bacteria that have entered the body.

  • Diarrhea and Vomiting : This problem can be caused by contaminated food or water (stomach bug/Gastroenteritis), weakness of the digestive system, or food allergies.

  • Ear Infection : A prolonged cold can cause a bacterial or viral infection due to fluid buildup in the Eustachian tube, causing severe ear pain.

  • Teething Issues : Swollen gums, pain, excessive drooling, irritability, and diarrhea are common symptoms of teething at this age.

  • Skin Issues : Diaper rash, eczema, or other allergic reactions can occur due to sensitivities to dust, soap, or food.
